Reference Quest is the brainchild of Erin Menzies. Below, we've detailed her training and expertise, so you'll better understand why she is uniquely qualified to develop Reference Quest into a high-quality educational tool.
Work Experience
Since 2014 Erin has been the Southern Medical Program Librarian at University of British Columbia Okanagan. She also holds liaison responsibility for biology, human kinetics, health & exercise sciences, and the faculty of education. Prior to this, she's worked at Toronto Rehab Hospital, Clinical Trials Ontario, University of Toronto, and University of Manitoba all in health sciences-related positions.
In her current role, Erin deals frequently with undergraduate students struggling to understand citation styles. Citation styles change frequently, and students do not always have the opportunity to really learn a style fully before it is updated. Many students will take different subjects, which can also result in the need to learn more than one style. These students are referred to the reference desk at the UBC Okanagan Library, where Erin and her colleagues are tasked with instructing students on proper form.
Education
2006 - Bachelor of Arts, Hons. English Language & Literature and Sociology, University of Toronto
2009 - Master of Science, Library and Information Studies, Robert Gordon University
2016- Master of Educational Technology, University of British Columbia
Venture Experience
Reference Quest is Erin's first educational venture. However, she has been involved in many grant-funded technology-focused projects at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, including one scheduled to scan human cadavers to develop 3D models (physical and digital). This project is intended to assist health professions students with understanding of internal anatomy (e.g. nerves, tendons).
